What are Fidget Spinners?

Fidget spinners are small palm sized gadgets made of metal, ceramic or wood, with two or three prongs centred around a circular bearing in the middle - the place where you hold the device with your finger and thumb. Then you give it a spin, and you watch - it’s as simple as that.

But after a while, I grew tired of just simple spinning. I was ready to take my new hobby to the next level? So I took to Youtube to learn how to do spinner tricks. Here are the top videos I found useful when upping my skills. Whether you’re a beginner or have been spinning for a long time, there is something to be learned in each of these videos.

So whats the verdict?

Have I gotten any better with the fidget spinner tricks? I can’t say I have the dexterity for it at but perhaps with practice I’ll be up there with the best of them. Like all things, you’ll just need to put the time and effort in to get better.

Blaming the tools…

One thing I have noticed is that its much easier to do spinner tricks when you have the right spinner. I current own three spinners, a basic spinner, an aluminium and a two pronged metal spinner (you can see the fidget spinner comparison here). I found that tricks were much easier to do with the three pronged beginner product as it was more lightweight (the metal spinners do have a bit of weight to them making it just that little bit harder to control. Id love to see if anybody has made their own spinner which is adapted to their hand size as I found my metal spinners to be a bit small, making them all the more difficult to control. I have naturally long fingers, which are great for playing the piano, but not so great for trying to handle small objects!

What else did I notice?

As I kept on trying new tricks I had the sudden realisation - these things are incredibly addictive. After watching the 10th Youtube video, I realised why they’re seeing a rise in popularity - they really do help with your concentration. There is no surprise that they’re hotly tipped as the top office product for stress release and meditation - it really does take your mind away from the stresses of day to day life!
